GIANT CONFEDERATE

BASS DRUM

During the War Between the States, 1861-1865, numerous musical instruments were invented as this period saw a heightened interest in field brass bands. Regimental bands, both North and South, began to compete for the "largest and loudest" bass drum. These huge drums were not for marching because of the weight, but more for bragging rights as each regiment tried to outdo each other. This replica measures 54", one of the largest documented of that era, and is currently the largest rope tension/bullhide drum in existence in the reenactment community.
