Early Military Aviation Pictures

1919-1921

Robert Cronau 1897 - 1996 Memorial Site

We have the wonderful and unique opportunity to present pictures from a photo album that were taken just after World War I. The photographer, Robert Cronau, was in WWI, WWII, and the Korean War. These pictures are not only interesting but also sometimes sad and poignant reminders of another time. As we have limited expertise early aviation these are simply presented without comment. It is important to remember that these were very brave men flying unreliable aircraft without parachutes or ejection seats. While some of the crashes represent some minor escapades most represent the loss of someone's life. It is to the memory of these brave, and all too often forgotten, men that this page is dedicated and especially to Robert Cronau who took these pictures.

This material has been provided courtesy of his granddaughter Ms. Sandy Riordan.
