4th Texas Regimental Artillery
(1st Lt. John Reily Memorial Battery)

The battery has been created to serve several important functions. These include but are not limited to:

The members will be strongly encouraged to be members of and actively participate with other organizations such as (but certainly not limited to) the Artillery Club, the 4th Texas Volunteers, and the 1st Texas Light Artillery Battery H. Members of Federal units will be welcome for those that want to see what the other side is like. THE EMPHASIS IS ON ENCOURAGING PARTICIPATION IN NEW MEXICO CIVIL WAR REENACTING!

At events the members will be expected to portray a reasonable period military appearance for their persons, and their camp and equipage. However the general rule will be that what is out of sight will simply not exist. (For example, a member that cannot sleep on the ground anymore can use a modern cot in a tent as long as the tent is closed and the cot or anything else that is not modern is not visible from the outside.) Members will work creatively together to use period solutions to keeping people in the field. Gender is not an issue. All members, whether male or female, are expected to keep as close as possible to a period military appearance and behavior as they can.
